The Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policy issued a resolution on the foundation of LAG Istra, a group administered by the majority shareholder, Središče Rotunda, Koper, so. p.

LAG Istra is a public-private partnership, established with the aim of representing common interests focused on the implementation of strategies for local development of our area. The implementation of the strategy is carried out with the support of three European funds:

- European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF),

- European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), and

- European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

- European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The main fund consists of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). The local development strategy of LAG Istra 2014-2020 (LDS) includes the key strategy document for the development of the area, carried out in cooperation with the interested public LAG Istra. The implementation and progress of the strategy are being constantly monitored, analysed and duly updated.

The development objectives of the Istrian area in the period 2014-2020 are as follows:

- competitiveness and creation of added value,

- a better link between the hinterland, urban areas and the sea,

- a high-quality living environment that respects visitors and tourists, and

- sustainable management.

The local development strategy aims towards four thematic fields of activity:

- job creation,

- development of the basic service,

- environmental protection and nature conservation and

- greater involvement of young people, women and other vulnerable groups.

All objectives and measures are focused on achieving balanced development of the hinterland, urban areas as well as the maritime (aquatorium) area under LAG Istra. The LAG Istra area is unique and it stands out for the sea, coastal area, fisheries and aquafarming. Its authenticity, which is also protected through sustainable development, is an asset par excellence.

The objective of LAG Istra is to increase interest in the project activities through the organization of animation workshops, its presence on the territory and a continuous interaction with their inhabitants. Applicants to calls for proposals thus receive the necessary support for the preparation of new projects. There are 4 thematic groups within LAG Istra: The thematic group of Tourism: agriculture; fisheries and aquafarming, as well as natural and cultural heritage and identity. The thematic groups have been formed with the aim of establishing a continuous and effective communication between the members of LAG Istra with an interest in the individual themes.

LAG Istra is a member of the Slovenian Association LAG, i.e. the Association for the development of the Slovenian hinterland.

Membership of the LAG Istra group is voluntary and becomes effective by signing the membership declaration.
